Pequot Library hosts annual Black Friday/Saturday Book Sale

Pequot Library’s Black Friday/Saturday Book Sale runs from Friday, Nov. 27 through Saturday, Nov. 28, from 9-5 daily.

Admission to the Black Friday/Saturday Book Sale is free and all proceeds support Pequot Library’s 700+ annual programs for adults and children, serving more than 100,000 participants a year. There will be 10,000 items of books, media, and framed prints, all at bargain prices. Most books are chosen for their suitability for holiday gift-giving, and there will be many new items. Most others are gently-used — ideal for gifting.

New to this sale will be tea-related books. The history of tea is long and complex, spreading across multiple cultures over the span of thousands of years. Both young and older folks alike drink tea to calm down, speed, up, many start the day with it, while others relax during an afternoon tea break. While tea likely originated in southwest China during the Shang dynasty as a medicinal drink, drinking tea became popular in Britain during the 17th century, and continues in popularity to this day.

If tea isn’t your cup of tea, the Black Friday/Saturday Book Sale offers hundreds of new CDs and DVDs, still factory-sealed and shrink-wrapped for sale. There also will be a silent auction, including several lots of Star Wars books. Give your favorite Jedi the books they have always wanted just in time for the new movie, Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens.

Or you can give the gift of an experience with a private Metropolitan Museum Tour. Take a private guided Highlights Tour of the Metropolitan Museum of Art with Dr. Rochelle Almeida, Professor of Global Cultures at New York University and a certified docent at the Museum with 15 years’ experience as a tour guide. On a one-hour jaunt through the varied spaces that cover global civilizations, this tour will introduce visitors to the Museum’s most iconic elements in its permanent collection. The Tour, restricted to four people, will be taken within the year at a mutually convenient time. If a private museum tour isn’t your cup of tea, how about a set of carved kangaroo bones, for the person who has everything?
