Sacred Heart University to host Kristallnacht commemoration

Sacred Heart University’s annual commemoration of Kristallnacht features Rabbi Marcello Kormis of Fairfield who will lead the service and give a presentation Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 2 p.m., in The Chapel of the Holy Spirit, Sacred Heart University, 5151 Park Avenue, Fairfield.

 

SHU_KristallnachtFULLKormis was born in Santiago, Chile. Seeking rabbinical studies, he moved to Buenos Aires and studied at Haifa University in Israel, the Hebrew University and Machon Schefter. After receiving his ordination from the seminario rabinico in 2003, Kormis returned to Santiago where he served as the head of Judaic Studies at the Hebrew Institute. In 2008, Kormis was chosen among the 100 most influential young leaders of his country. Four years after, he left Chile to pursue a new opportunity for himself and his family in Fairfield. He is currently the spiritual leader of Congregation Beth El, a synagogue that serves about 325 families.
