Thanks to participants of Trick or Treat on Safety Street

As traffic goers may have noticed, for three hours on the Friday afternoon before Halloween, the downtown area of Fairfield came alive with hundreds of smiling youngsters all decked out in an incredible array of colorful costumes.

Halloween-photo-#1The children were accompanied by enthusiastic adults, many of them in Halloween costumes themselves, as they bustled up and down the Post Road gathering their treats from friendly and generous local merchants.

The hub of activity centered around the Sherman Green where the Fairfield Kiwanis Club served as event coordinator and set up about a dozen stations for local organizations to hand out goodies while admiring the costumes. Area merchants did the same at storefronts all along the Post Road which was closed to vehicular traffic by the Fairfield Police Department to provide safety for the event.

The festive atmosphere was reinforced by many members of the Fairfield community. Music, provided by radio station STAR 99.9, filled the air while town officials greeted the public. Fairfield Ludlowe High School was represented by the following clubs: UNICEF, Build On, Make-A-Wish, and Coloring Book Club. The Kiwanis Key Club, from our local high schools, provided multi-faceted assistance.

At the end of the day, Dr. Brian Baker, past president of the Kiwanis Club and Thomas Maniscalco, the incoming president, agreed that, “We are delighted to have served our community by helping to organize this safe and joyous event for the children of Fairfield”. Fairfield’s Trick or Treat on Safety Street was a heartwarming success.

On behalf of the Kiwanis Club of Fairfield, club president, Thomas Maniscalco and event chair-person, Tove Vanderblue, we wish to thank all those who participated in Trick or Treat on Safety Street and look forward to next year.
