Fairfield’s McKinley School to host cultural fair

Fairfield’s McKinley Elementary School will hold its 8th World’s Fair on Saturday, Nov. 7, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. This town-wide event will feature international entertainment, food, baked goods, crafts, and games.

McKinley parents and students from 22 different countries will dress in their nation’s traditional clothing and host exhibit tables showcasing hands-on artifacts, photos, toys, and games from their homelands. This year’s theme is “Holidays around the World”; families at each country table will also tell about the holidays celebrated in their countries.

Throughout the event, a variety of music, dance, and martial artists will perform; ranging from Irish to Indian, to Klezmer, to Capoeira. The entertainment will begin with an Olympic-style Parade of Nations and McKinley’s children’s choir singing our National Anthem.

Food will be available from local ethnic restaurants: Stan’s Jamaican Kitchen, Rio Bravo Mexican Restaurant, LC Chen’s Pan Asian Restaurant, and Garden Catering. Dessert will be provided through an International bake sale with home baked items by McKinley parents.

Admission to attend is $5 for students (free under 3) and $3 for adults. Upon entry, attendees will receive a passport to be stamped at each country’s table and turned in for prizes.

McKinley School is located at 60 Thompson Street, Fairfield.
