Pequot Library hosts Art Show Preview Benefit Party

Pequot Library will be hosting its Art Show Preview Benefit Party on Friday, Oct. 16, from 6-9 p.m. The event marks the opening of the 18th Annual Art Show. Proceeds from the festive gala help fund Pequot Library’s cultural programs. The Art Show honors Enid Munroe this year as Honorary Chair. Tickets are available online at or at the Front Desk.

Preview Party guests have the opportunity to preview the art of over 110 original art works, many by award-winning artists, and to purchase original fine art to grace their homes and offices. Drinks & Bites will be catered by Susan Kane Catering with a signature drink called “The Art Royale.” To keep the part-goers entertained there will be three live performances throughout the evening, and a Silent Auction featuring extraordinary trips, unique culinary experiences, tickets to cultural events and much more. New this year will be “Viewer’s Choice” party-goers vote for Best in Show at the Preview Benefit Party.

The performance artists include: Milford-based, T.C. Ford, will create on-the-spot caricatures of guests. Ford has worked for DC, MARVEL and Special Olympics, World Color Press, and was the last Editor-in-Chief of Charlton Comics. He publishes comics under his United Comics imprint. Ford owns and operates Lucky Star Entertainment, a party entertainment company that provides interactive and talent based event services throughout the East Coast. He is the only caricature artist to have done at least one show at every Ivy League college. As a member of the National Caricaturist Network, he was named “Artist of the Month” in March, 2003.

New York City-based, Arturo Garcia, preeminent Mexican classical realist painter, will paint a portrait of Christopher Columbus, during the gala party. His inspiration will be seven Christopher Columbus portraits from Pequot Library’s special collections of rare books. Garcia spent his formative years in Mexico and Spain, graduating with honors from The National School of Plastic Arts. He continued his training in the U.S. and in NYC became affiliated with The Water Street Atelier. Art collectors have recognized the value and uniqueness of his work which includes still-lifes, landscapes, floral, interiors and figurative works.

Also based in New York City, Rute Ventura, will enact “A Live Still Life,” three times throughout the evening. Ventura is a Portuguese multi-media artist whose artwork ranges from drawing to painting, sculpture, video and installation. She has studied extensively in Italy, learning Trompe L’oeil techniques at the Accademia del Superfuluo in Rome. She moved to New York City in 2009 where she works as a teaching artist with the non-profit Doing Art Together, providing art workshops for under-served crowds in NY City Public Schools. She collaborates with The City College of New York incorporating STEM through STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math)
