13's fall in tourney opener

Fairfield lost a 6-2 decision to Trumbull in the first round of the Babe Ruth 13 year old Tournament at Unity Park in Trumbull on Friday night.

Manager Gary Clark’s team will play the loser of Trumbull’s game with Norwalk on Sunday at 3 p.m. The winners will meet Monday at 7 for the title. All games are at Unity Park.

The locals took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning before Trumbull leveled things off with a run in the third and fifth innings.

Tyler Petry pitched well for Fairfield, scattering five hits and striking out four through the first five innings.

In the sixth, Trumbull answered an opening strikeout with a single and a pair of doubles to the gap to spark a four-run uprising.

With two outs in the first, Petry walked and stole second. Bobby Clark ripped a long drive to left-center to give Fairfield a 1-0 lead.

He scored when Henry Johnson hard-hit ball to the right side of the infield was misplayed.
