LETTER: Tetreau has Real Vision

FI-Letter-to-the-EditorTo the Editor:

Ah, yes! The VISION thing . . . Why is it that candidates with no records of their own claim to have so much vision?

A campaign postcard states that General Electric is threatening to leave due to actions of the governor and the state legislature to impose a unity tax.  GE is only one of many multi-national companies struggling to compete in a challenging economic climate.  They will make their own decisions about their future.

The Republican candidate for First Selectman proposes hiring a Business Developer. Doesn’t he know that the Town already has a “business developer”?  We already have a $200,000 Economic Development Department with a Director and staff, and an Economic Development Commission.

His only other idea was to set up a Business Advisory Council Panel made up of members of the business community. Fairfield already has a very active and viable Chamber of Commerce.  Once again, he has proposed a duplication of effort.

In his State of the Town address, First Selectman Mike Tetreau provided a detailed list of his accomplishments in the last four years and proposed the development of a Strategic Plan to meet the challenges that we still face: continuing to renovate our schools, preparing a plan for flood control, pursuing energy saving opportunities, rebuilding our infrastructure, and continuing to explore affordable housing opportunities for our citizens, to mention a few. Now that’s Real Vision!

Join me in voting for the Tetreau/Marmion Team on November 3rd!
