Football: Staples defeats Fairfield Warde

The Fairfield Warde football team took to the road and lost to FCIAC rival Staples High of Westport, 35-15, in the rain on Friday night.

Bryan Azarian scored on an 80-yard run and ran for the two-point conversion to get coach Duncan Dellavolpe’s Mustangs on the board to open the fourth quarter.

Jack Potenza threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Clayton Mitchell, with Ben Schwinn kicking the PAT, to complete the scoring for Warde (0-3).

Staples improved to 3-0 behind Ethan Burger and Connor Adrian, who each rushed for more than 100 yards. Burger scored three touchdowns (48, 1, and 17 yards) to give the Wreckers a 1-0 halftime lead. Paul Tricarico had all three PATS.

Adrian (55 yards) and Sam Arciola (80-yard kick return) also found the end zone.
