Watch live: Fairfield Warde at Staples football on HAN

The Staples High football team will look to continue its unbeaten ways, while Fairfield Warde will be out to get into the win column when the Wreckers play host to the Mustangs for the HAN Network’s FCIAC Game of the week in Westport on Friday night, Oct. 2.

You can watch the game live on the HAN.Network with live pre-game coverage beginning at 4 p.m. and kickoff at 7 p.m.

Coach Marce Petroccio’s Staples squad has posted victories over Danbury High, 21-14, and Wilton High, 37-0.

Ethan Burger ran for 205 yards in the win over Danbury. Quarterback Andrew Speed completed 9 of 14 passes for 100 yards and a touchdown. He ran for 59 yards.

Before the season started, Staples’ football captains talked with HAN:

Speed and Burger each ran for two touchdowns in the shutout win over Wilton. Connor Adrian ran for a score. Staples had more than 300 yards of offense in the first half; the defense limited Wilton to less than 100 yards of offense in the game.

Coach Duncan Dellavolpe’s Mustangs have made games of both their home contests, but dropped decisions to Norwalk High, 33-26, and Stamford High, 24-16.

Quarterback Jack Potenza has been the go-to guy for the Mustangs. He ran for touchdowns of 21 and seven yards, and threw touchdown passes to Bryan Azarian from 52 and 10 yards out, against Norwalk. Potenza completed 20 of 26 passes for 242 yards and ran for 85 yards against the Bears.

In the Stamford game, Potenza scored on a 35-yard run to make it 18-9 in the third quarter. Mike Whiting later caught a 66-yard touchdown pass and Azarian a two-point conversion, but the team’s played a scoreless final period.
