American Family Care (AFC) Urgent Care, the largest national chain of urgent care walk-in clinics, will host a grand opening at its newest Connecticut location at 1910 Black Rock Turnpike in Fairfield on Thursday, Oct. 15, beginning at 5 p.m. The new health center will begin serving area patients on Friday, Oct. 16.

A time-saving, cost-effective alternative to the ER for many illnesses and injuries, AFC Urgent Care offers fast, convenient and affordable care for both non-life threatening medical emergencies and routine health needs. Patients are seen by board-certified physicians and experienced staff on a walk-in basis and receive prompt, compassionate treatment. By choosing AFC Urgent Care, patients can avoid the extensive wait times and expensive copays often associated with hospital emergency care.

AFC Fairfield’s state-of-the-art center features advanced technology and services on-site, saving patients time by eliminating the need to visit multiple facilities. Services include X-rays, lab tests, pre-employment physicals, drug screening, sports and school physicals, vaccinations and travel medicine. The urgent care clinic accepts most insurance plans and self-payment.

Dr. Steven Heffer, M.D., AFC Fairfield owner and medical director, is a 15-year town resident. He decided to open the Fairfield center in response to friends and neighbors citing an unmet need for a high quality urgent care clinic with convenient hours. Focused on delivering exceptional service and a great patient experience, AFC Urgent Care offers a one-stop medical resource for children, adults, college students and local businesses.

Fairfield marks the seventh AFC location in Connecticut and the second launched by Dr. Heffer.

He was recognized with the “Doctors of Distinction” Community Service Award from the Fairfield County Business Journal in May, an acknowledgement of his deep passion and motivation for providing the highest level of medical care and service to his community.

Dr. Heffer is a board-certified emergency medicine physician with over 20 years of experience in emergency medical care. He completed his internship and residency at New York University Medical Center and Bellevue Hospital Trauma Center after receiving his medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

After more than a decade as an emergency room physician at Greenwich Hospital, Dr. Heffer opened his first center, AFC Doctors Express Urgent Care of Bridgeport, in March 2014. It was the perfect opportunity to use his expertise to positively impact health services in the community and improve the quality of medical care available to patients.

According to AFC headquarters’ Visit Count Report, AFC Bridgeport has consistently been among the top 10 clinics nationwide by patient visit count over the last eight months. The center was honored with the 2014 “Business in Bloom Award” by the Bridgeport Regional Business Council for its significant contributions to the city’s neighborhoods and surrounding towns. Dr. Heffer was also named General Practitioner of the Bridgeport Bluefish baseball team in 2014.

The AFC staff also takes pride in serving the Fairfield community beyond delivering medical care. They are active in the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, sponsorship of youth sports leagues and support of local businesses and colleges.

“Our goal at AFC Urgent Care in Fairfield is to provide our patients with fast, effective medical treatment and advanced medical services,” said Dr. Heffer. “Their care and well-being are the primary focus of our mission. We are committed to setting a new standard in urgent care, expanding access to quality medical services and becoming a trusted health resource for the Fairfield community.”

While established centers are known as AFC Doctors Express Urgent Care, Fairfield is one of the first clinics opening as AFC Urgent Care. Over the next two years more than 140 Doctors Express locations across the U.S. will be renamed AFC Urgent Care. American Family Care, the parent company of AFC Doctors Express and AFC Urgent Care, is a leader in urgent care with over 33 years of experience. Though the name will change, patients can continue to expect the same experienced medical professionals, quality, convenience and affordable copays they’ve come to rely on.

The new AFC Fairfield clinic will be open seven days a week, including evening hours. For more information, visit AFCUrgentCareFairfield.com or call 203-583-8400.
