CT Audubon Society: Girl Scout Badge Day

The Connecticut Audubon Society, Center at Fairfield hosts Girl Scout Badge Day Saturday, October 17, from 9-noon, 2325 Burr Street, Fairfield. Register by Oct. 5.

Attention all Girl Scouts! Don’t miss this great opportunity to earn a new badge. Join Connecticut Audubon Society’s teacher-naturalists as they lead scouts on an exploratory hike through the Center at Fairfield’s beautiful Larsen Sanctuary while satisfying badge requirements, journeys and achievements. These programs meet requirements for the Girl Scout’s Journey series’ “It’s Your Planet, Love It!” and/or the “It’s Your Story, Tell It!” The badges being fulfilled are: Brownies – “Hiker” and “Bugs;” Juniors – “Animal Habitats.”

Where does the trail lead us? Will we discover a pond or find an animal in hiding? While hiking in the Larsen Sanctuary, we’ll search for signs of animals and birds. Also learn what gear to take on a hike and how to pack tasty, healthy snacks for energy. Three, one-hour time slots available starting at:  9, 10, and 11 a.m.

Creepy, crawly buggy bugs! They play an important role in our world. Discover just how important they are to our ecosystems through exploration in the Larsen Sanctuary. Look for bugs in action in their various habitats and count how many different kinds we can find. Then put your artist flair to work by drawing a bug poster. Three, one-hour time slots available starting at:  9, 10, and 11 a.m.

Animal Habitats

Take to the trails and investigate different animal habitats and discover who lives where. Learn about endangered animals and what we can do to protect the habitat and the animals that live there. Then put what you’ve learned together with your creative talents and create an animal habitat. Time: 9 to 11 a.m.

Programs take place at CT Audubon Society’s Center at Fairfield, 2325 Burr St., Fairfield, CT. They are open to troops, or individuals with an adult. Cost: $14 per scout; $2 per accompanying adult. Space is limited; pre-registration required by October 5. Register on the Girl Scout website at www.gsofct.org; look for the “Programming and Training Registration Area.”
