The eight-week program will be held quarterly beginning October 5 in Danbury and October 8 in Fairfield. Sheila Wall MSW, Mindfulness Coach/Trainer and President of In Synchrony, LLC in partnership with Carol Shear RN, Integrative Health Coach and owner of Rise Up Coaching, LLC. will be the program co-leaders. Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is a proven program that helps people in their everyday life reduce stress, pain and illness through the use of intensive training in mindfulness meditation.

“We are honored to offer this life changing program to the residents of Fairfield, Danbury and surrounding towns. There is so much people can do for themselves in partnership with their doctor to manage the physical and mental effects of stress. I like to call this the ‘inside job’: that which only you can do for you, drawing upon your inner resources and natural capacity for greater health, balance and peace of mind,” said program co-leader Carol Shear.

The Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Fall 2015 program will open with an evening free Introductory Session on Monday, October 5 in Danbury from 6:30-8:30 and in Fairfield, Thursday, Oct. 8, 6:30-8:30. Eight weekly classes follow including a one daylong retreat, Saturday, November 21 (no class Thanksgiving day).

“Struggling to manage two intense chronic illnesses, a recent participant began the program in pain, depressed and feeling helpless. By the end of the program she declared how the practices enabled her to control her anxiety instead of feeling controlled by her illness. The majority of participants we see in our program report lasting decreases in physical, emotional and psychological symptoms,” stated Sheila Wall, program co-leader.

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction is a method of using mindfulness practices and techniques to cultivate non-judgmental present moment awareness to reduce stress, pain and illness. Participants learn to observe default reactions to life’s stressors and discover that they are a choice as to how to respond, instead of react, to daily challenges and stressors. Throughout the 8-week program thes mindfulness practices are applied to everyday situations allowing participants to connect more fully with themselves, loved ones, and every moment of the life they are living.

Common conditions that benefit from MBSR include anxiety, chronic pain, cancer/medical diagnosis, depression, high blood pressure, sleep problems, stomach/bowl ailments, headaches, desire for an overall elevated quality of life.

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction was founded in 1979 by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn, University of Massachusetts Medical School. The benefits of practicing mindfulness has been featured in the Bill Moyers PBS documentary, Healing and the Mind, on ABC’s Nightline with Dan Harris on, “The Long Journey to Becoming 10% Happier”, Anderson Cooper’s mindfulness segment on 60 Minutes, and many other print and TV media. Since it’s inception, 30,000 people have completed the program. According to the American Mindfulness Research Association, the number of Mindfulness Based Research publications has increased from 21 in 2000 to 549 in 2013.

As professional health care providers, certified professional coaches and teachers trained in MBSR at the Center for Mindfulness, UMass Medical School, Sheila and Carol bring an unparalleled perspective to health and healing in partnership with conventional medicine and business to serve people in search of living life with greater ease and vitality, less stress and on their own terms.
