Annual Senior Citizen Smoke Detector Battery Replacement Program

The Fairfield Fire Department offers the annual Senior Citizen Smoke Detector Battery Replacement Program Thursday, Oct. 8 through Monday, Oct. 19, during morning and afternoon hours.

Every year, the Fairfield Fire Department changes Senior Citizen’s smoke detector batteries free of charge. Allowing the Fire Department into a home is a privilege we respect with great pride and care. The simple act of changing a battery cuts the risk of dying in a home fire nearly in half. This free lifesaving service is one of the most important things we do all year long.

To date, we have more than 800 residents who have requested this valuable service, and have replaced more than 1,400 batteries. Additionally we have installed new detectors in homes where needed.

While the Fire Department will still change batteries for Fairfield residents of every age, this program has had a tremendous impact with our senior population. Due to their positive feedback, our list remains ever growing.

If you are a senior citizen and are interested in receiving this valuable service, call the Fairfield Fire Department, 203-254-4713 for more information.
