Influential guitar band, Wishbone Ash rocks StageOne

Fairfield Theatre Company welcomes one of the most influential guitar bands in history, Wishbone Ash to StageOne for the first time on Sept. 22, at 7:45 p.m.

Longtime fans and new converts will find that Wishbone Ash offers an undeniable concert experience. Formed in 1969, Wishbone Ash is credited with 24 original studio recordings, 10 live albums and four live DVDs along with a DVD rockumentary. Seriously, there is little this British rock band has yet to accomplish.

With their legendary twin-guitar approach, Wishbone Ash has been cited by legendary bands like Lynyrd Skynyrd as a primary influence along with Thin Lizzy, Iron Maiden and, more recently, heavyweights Opeth. Yet, still till this day there is no other rock band in history that has done more with the twin guitar concept than The Ash.

Founded and led by guitar and vocalist Andy Powell and now made up of Finland’s guitar wizard Muddy Manninen, bassist Bob Skeat and drummer Joe Crabtree (who is considered one of the best of Britain’s new breed of drummers and whose credits include Pendragon and David Cross of King Crimson) any fan of music see as well hear as why these gentleman are considered some of the best in the business from the very first note they play.

Now Wishbone Ash will make their way across the pond in support of their tour called Pilgrimage which is a nod to the Wishbone Ash’s beloved “Pilgrimage” album, but it’s also a fitting way to describe what has become an annual journey across the Atlantic filled with familiar faces and places.

“Each year when we tour countries on our world circuit, these visits feel like pilgrimages to all our old haunts,” says Powell. “We visit venues we’ve performed in multiple times over the years. We know the staff there, we often stay in the same hotels, visit the same restaurants, we see the same folks thousands of miles apart. The fans, of course, are the major component. We catch up on their stories and their lives.”

Yet for the Ash this will become the first ever pilgrimage they have done to the Fairfield Theatre Company in support of their latest release, Blue Horizon. For few rock bands of any era have explored as many musical geographies as are present in Blue Horizon; from hard electric blues-rock to sword-and-sorcery prog and in the 1990s, even trance!

Blue Horizon is a reassessment of Wishbone Ash’s core strengths, well-written tunes, excellent production, and winding instrumental passages. Fans are presented with classic Wishbone Ash characteristics, of the progressive-tinged long solo passages, superb tempo changes that are sure to astound.

Fans of legendary 70’s rock bands like Rush, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Ten Years After, Blind Faith, Jethro Tull, The Who and Pink Floyd get ready and clear some room on your shelf because if you haven’t heard of Wishbone Ash before then you may just have found a new band to rave to your friend about seeing live and may end up buying their whole catalog of music. Come see for yourself why Wishbone Ash are considered one of the greatest rock bands of all time as the Fairfield Theatre Company continues to bring the best music from around the world to the epicenter of art and culture in Fairfield County, for a night that will rock your very core.
