Convincing Cover Letters: Create interest and get interviews

Career Coach Ann Wright demonstrates how to create a convincing cover letter during a free job series talk, Convincing Cover Letters: Create Interest and Get Interviews Wednesday, Sept. 16, 7 p.m., Memorial Room at the Fairfield Public Main Library, 1080 Old Post Road. Registration is requested.

This program will identify cover letter content, give examples of effective letters, discuss the merits of a standard letter and provide materials to assist attendees in preparing letters. Time will be given to review individual letters submitted by workshop participants. If you would like to have a letter privately critiqued, please bring a copy of the letter as well as a description of the position you are seeking.

Presenter Ann Wright has a background in corporate human resources in the private sector, experience in academia (Yale School of Management as Director of Career Development) and 25 years coaching all levels of clients. She has been affiliated with Fairfield Public Library since 2011 as a career coach and facilitator of the Library’s Job Search Boot Camp.

Other Jobs series programs this fall include: “Mock Interviews (One-on-One)” on September 21,”The Dos and Don’ts of Landing a Job: The Millennial Edition”, October 6; “Over 40 and Looking for Work”, October 19; “LinkedIn for Professionals and Job Seekers”, November 19; “Critiquing LinkedIn Profiles”, November 23; “Marketing Yourself: Branding”, December 3 and “Advanced Resume Techniques”, December 14.

These presentations are part of the Library’s award-winning Jobs series, now in its sixth year. The talks are supplemented by a LinkedIn networking group, one-on-one career counseling sessions, Job Search Boot Camp, podcast recordings of over 100 past presentations (www.fairfieldpubliclibrary.org), and an updated collection of job-hunting books. Since January of 2012, 150 people who have attended Jobs series programs have reported they have found employment.
