The Fairfield Wildcats enjoyed a successful Saturday.

The Fairfield Wildcats eighth grade football team powered their way to a 14-7 win on Saturday, defeating 2014 co-champion Wilton White at home.

Wilton struck first taking a 7-0 lead early in the second quarter. On the ensuing drive, Fairfield drove the ball 70 yards, capped by a James Bourque 40-yard run up the middle. Tristan Breheny, Luke Lauro, Michael White, Griffin Gallati and Liam Hawley opened the hole.

In the fourth quarter, on a third and long, Joe Gulbin scrambled out of the pocket and found Seamus Foley to keep the eventual game-winning drive alive.

On fourth down from the Wilton 20-yard line and trailing by one point, Gulbin threw the ball deep to Sam Davenport who grabbed the reception in the end zone for the go-ahead score.

The Fairfield defense, led by Sean Nelson, Evan Rose, Henry Bosken and Alex Farkas, held Wilton to a turnover on downs to end the game.

Fairfield will next play at New Canaan Black.

7th grade Wildcats

The 7th grade Wildcats picked up where they left off last week, defeating Darien 21-7 on Saturday afternoon.

On the first possession of the game, running back Lorenzo Cooper scored on a 65-yard jaunt off of a devastating block by James Kim to convert the first points for the Wildcats.

Offensive linemen Billy Grace, John Summers, Mike Delach, TJ Finnegan, Arthur Belile, Jaden Gold and Kyle Dutter provided plenty of room for the Wildcat running backs to maneuver down the field.

Brendan Howard and Blake Burchill also ran for touchdowns in the first quarter of the game. RJ Ihlefeld converted all three PATs behind solid blocking.

Defensive standouts included Jack McKenna, Lucas Mayer, Jake Neff and Jack Morrison.

During the third quarter, Brandon Lopez made a tremendous special team’s tackle to prevent a Darien punt return.

Fairfield Black

The  Fairfield Wildcats 6th grade Black team pulled away with a win on Saturday, defeating Darien Wave 14-8 at home.

The Wildcats offense was led by Jack Reiling, Charlie Mitola, Michael Loya and Dom Bellora.

Fairfield moved the ball 70 yards in seven plays to put the first points on the board. Reiling connected with Loya on a 20-yard pass to take a 7-0 lead.

Darien then drove the ball up to the 12-yard line, but was stopped by Chris Silk, Paul Sussman and Wyatt Morgan. Neither team would score to again for the first half.

In the second half, Darien broke a huge run to take the lead away from Fairfield by a score of 8-7.

With the game on the line, Reiling pulled out of the backfield following lead blocking fromBellora to put the Wildcats back on top 14-8.

Darien’s final opportunity to answer back was squashed by a stingy Wildcat defense, securing the win with excellent tackling by Lucca Ianone and a sack by Wyatt Morgan.

Fairfield will next play at Weston

6th grade Wildcats

The 6th grade Blue Wildcats defeated Darien White 12-7 to improve to 2-0 on the season.

Harrison Keith opened the scoring with a 35-yard run. Later in the game, Jack Andrews ran 34 yards to set up Zach Hios’ three-yard rush for the go-ahead score. Ryan O’Connell stopped.

Darien’s final drive ended with an interception to win the game.
