Internationally acclaimed Lions Gate Trio performs chamber music concert

The Fairfield Public Library will host the internationally acclaimed Lions Gate Trio for a chamber music concert highlighting works of Franz Schubert on Sunday, September 27 at 3 p.m. In his short life, Schubert wrote over a thousand works, works which flowed from his inexhaustible wealth of melody and imagination. He transformed what music was, moving beyond the crisp and symmetrical style of Classicism into the vast expressive realms of Romanticism. Join the Lions Gate Trio as they discuss and perform Schubert, combining the Impromptu for solo piano with the magnificent Piano Trio in B flat. The concert will be held in the Memorial Room of the Main Library, 1080 Old Post Road. Registration is requested due to limited seating.

The Lions Gate Trio is comprised of the talented Darrett Adkins, cello; Katie Lansdale, violin; Florence Millet, piano and Peter Alexander, musical director. With individual faculty positions in Cologne, New York and Hartford, the Trio has also served residencies at Tanglewood, Yale University and the University of Pittsburgh. They are currently the trio-in-residence in Connecticut at both the Library and the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford.

The Library is able to host this accomplished chamber music trio twice a year through the generosity of the Friends of the Fairfield Public Library. The Friends graciously underwrite Soundwaves concerts as well as the reception that follows, providing an opportunity for the audience to meet the artists and enjoy light refreshments.

This year the Trio will return to the Library on December 6 with two performances-one for young listeners and one for adults. Both performances will feature the works of Beethoven, Ravel and Kolomiietz.
