Bigelow Center for Senior Activities upcoming programs and announcements for the Week of Sept. 14.

The 28th annual Bigelow Community Challenge race is Sunday, Sept. 27. Senior Team applications are available at the front desk.

We are open on Thursday evenings, starting this week, until 8 p.m. We are open this Saturday, Sept. 19, but NOT Saturday, Sept. 26. Saturday hours will resume on Saturday Oct. 3.

Drones Talk and Demonstration Saturday, Sept. 19, 10 a.m. Art Gottlieb, military historian, will speak about drones, followed by a drone/quad-copter demonstration by Will Vanderlip, of Hobbytown in Fairfield. Program sponsored by Interim Healthcare. Registration required. All ages welcome.

AARP Driver Safety Saturday, Sept. 19, 9-1. Registration required. Fee: $15 for AARP members, $20 for non-members. Checks only payable to AARP.

Technology Tutoring. Sean Oppenheimer and his team of tech-savvy teens return on Thursdays, starting 9/17 to help you with your technology questions. No appointment necessary.

Watercolors with Sabine Bonnar. Classes begin Monday, September 14, from 12:30-2:30 p.m.

Explore your creative side! Fee: $10 per session, $50 for five-class session. To register, please see Janet in the office or call Sabine directly (203)-913-9922.

Basic Computing. Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting September 15 from 1-2 p.m. Learn mouse and keyboard skills, how to use Windows, how to personalize your computer and get started with word processing. Instructor Lisa Harris. Fee: $30 for eight classes payable to the instructor at the first class.

Personal Stories Writing Workshop with Amy Luciano. Tuesdays, starting September 15 at 1 p.m. If you’ve ever thought about writing the story of your life, or just the good parts, here’s your opportunity to start focusing. Fee: $40 per eight-week session, payable directly to instructor.

Beginner Spanish with Luz Rincon, certified Berlitz Language Instructor. Wednesdays, starting September 16, 10-11 a.m. Recommended for students who have no or minimal grasp of the Spanish language Fee: $40 per eight-week session, payable directly to instructor.

Live Well, a Chronic Disease Self-Management Program. Tuesdays for six weeks, starting September 22, from 1-3:30 p.m. Learn how to manage on-going health issues such as diabetes, arthritis, lung and heart disease, chronic pain, anxiety and depression. Join the workshop series, meeting weekly for six weeks. No Fee.

Tai Chi with Bill Wrenn Thursday evenings at 5:30, starting October 1. Fee: $40 for eight-week session, payable first class, directly to instructor. Minimum of 10 students for class to run.
