Watch HAN: Weston vs. Notre Dame-Fairfield football live Saturday

Chris Sadler will coach his first football game at Notre Dame of Fairfield when the Lancers host Weston High in the South-West Conference season opener for both teams on Saturday, Sept. 12, at 1 p.m. at McCarty Stadium on the school campus.

The game will be broadcast live on HAN.Network and its partner sites, including TheWestonForum.com and Fairfield-Sun.com with streaming video and audio. All regular season Connecticut sports contests on HAN.Network are broadcast for free. You can see the initial fall schedule here.

Notre Dame’s Sadler comes over after being an assistant coach at St. Joseph High in Trumbull, where he helped guide the Cadets to state titles the past two seasons. In Sadler’s six years as the defensive coordinator, head coach Joe Della Vecchia’s Hogs won state titles in 2009, 2010, 2013 and 2014.

Sadler replaces Ted Boynton and will be Notre Dame’s fifth head coach in the past six season. The Lancers have posted a 22-71-1 record during that stretch, including a 1-10 mark the past two seasons.

For Weston High, coach Chris Pace’s Trojans are hoping to duplicate their victory over the Lancers in 2014, when they won a 51-30 decision and finished the season with a 5-6 record.

Weston returns a young team comprised mainly of juniors, with a handful of seniors and sophomores.

Calling the signals is junior Alex Fruhbeis, who also saw time in the quarterback slot last season. Classmate Bobby Lummis will be the primary ball carrier and will also handle the punting duties.

The success of Weston’s passing game will depend in part on senior captain and receiver Thomas Krumwiede, who will be at cornerback while on defense.

Juniors Jason Lawrence, George Goetz, Jackson Aguas and Peter Achar will also be receivers.

The Trojans have some experience on  their  offensive and defensive lines with senior captains James Milne (All-South-West Conference second team) and Kris Dammen-Brower (All-SWC honorable mention).

Stepping into the center position is junior Mike Otworth, who has been very consistent in the pre-season, according to Pace.

Junior Peter Jegen and sophomores Dan Santa-Maria and Zach Spencer (All-SWC) round out the line.

Kicking field goals and extra points is junior Ian Richling.

For Notre Dame, Hakim Fleming, Bill Kelly, Noel Santaella, Trendon Gardner and Matthew Merced are team captains.

Fleming ran for 1,251 yards and 12 touchdowns as a junior. Kelly rushed for 524 yards with three scores. Brandon White had 213 yards on the ground.

Graduated quarterback Shea Olayo’s had a steady target in Tony Addorisio, who made 20 catches good for 304 yards and two touchdowns.

Kelly was the team’s leading tacker with 98. Fleming had 93 and Santaella made 89 stops.

Micah Brantley, Mike Bevino and Kyle Pavone are competing to be the starting quarterback.

Sadler said: “My goal here at ND is to develop well-rounded student-athletes who leave this program understanding the importance of hard work and teamwork, while working towards team goals of winning football games and eventually competing for league and state titles.”
