Double rollover accident sends two to hospital

On August 29, 2015 at 1:02 p.m., the Fairfield fire Department was dispatched to the Merritt Parkway Southbound between exits 46 and 47 for a report vehicle accident with injuries.

When Fairfield Fire Engine 3 arrived on scene, they found two cars had rolled over and were resting on their roofs along the roadway. Fire department personnel established a safety zone, quickly assessed all occupants for injuries, and identified two occupants that required medical care and transportation to the hospital.

A precautionary hose line was deployed to protect against possible fire due to the accident. AMR ambulance transported both victims to area hospitals and Fairfield Fire remained on scene until vehicles were removed due to environmental hazards. The highway remained open during most of the incident with a single lane closure but was shut down completely to remove the vehicles for approx. 10 minutes. The scene was turned over to CT State Police for investigation.

Assistant Chief Scott Bisson stated, ”Due to the damage and location of the accident, the occupants were very fortunate that their injuries appear to be non-life threatening and that they were not trapped inside the vehicles.“

The last fire unit cleared the scene at 2:07 p.m.
