Emergency units rescue landscaper from lawnmower rollover

On June 21, at 1:02 p.m., the Fairfield Emergency Communications Center received a report of a male pinned under a tractor with injuries at 385 Harbor Road in Southport.

Fairfield Fire Engine 4, Ladder 1 and Car 3 along with Police and AMR units were dispatched.

Engine 4 was on the scene at 1:06pm and began treating the patient for his injuries; Assistant Chief George Gomola arrived in Car 3 and was told that “the occupant was cutting the grass in the rear yard of 385 Harbor Road where the lawn is very steep and is separated by a retaining wall.

According to the occupant he was cutting the hill when the lawn tractor upon which he was riding began to slide down the hill backwards.

The tractor slid over a small retaining wall then landed on top of the patient, briefly pinning him underneath the tractor before a coworker helped him free himself from the tractor.

Fairfield arrived and stabilized the scene, securing the tractor and stabilizing the occupant before using a Stokes stretcher to transfer the victim to the AMR ambulance for transport to St. Vincent’s Medical Center.
