Volunteers sought for AARP tax-aide program

Volunteers are needed for the AARP Foundation sponsored tax counseling for the Elderly Program. Senior citizens of limited means are assisted in the preparation and filing of their federal and state income taxes. The program is based at the Fairfield Senior Center.

All volunteers are trained using IRS designed manuals and testing, as well as being trained on professional tax preparation software. The commitment is for about 5-10 hours per week between February and mid-April only. Tax counseling occurs during weekdays, so it’s a good opportunity for a retired person with a facility for working with numbers (accounting, finance, computing) to assist senior citizens.

To volunteer, visit aarp.org/taxaide. There you will be able to sign up and learn more about the program. The district co-ordinator for the program will contact you after receiving your information.
