Jr. Babe wraps up season

Prior to playoff action beginning, the Fairfield Junior Babe Ruth League saw DeRose Family Podiatry defeat Stratford Green, 9-6.

Patrick Craig pitched six strong innings for DeRose and was followed by Tyler Henchcliffe, who picked up the save in the seventh.

For the offense, Will Cannon singled in the first inning driving in two runs, Ryan Taylor doubled in the fifth also bringing in two runs, while Henchcliffe singled home the winning run in the sixth. Kevin Boldrighini had two singles and drove in a run in the fifth.

Brendan Casey pitched the first two innings, allowing no runs, and Ben Raggio pitched well in the later four frames.

Casey also ripped a base hit to the right-center gap scoring Raggio and Tony Ward, and after an overthrow scored himself to give DQ a three-run lead in the first inning.

Great hitting by Ward and Alex Borruso in the sixth inning brought in the remaining three runs for DQ.

PAL received an outstanding pitching performance by Thomas Moore, who allowed just two runs on three hits, walked one, struck out nine, and completing the game in just 77 pitches.

Mark Schwartz led the way offensively with a two-run double in the seven-run fifth and a two-run double in the sixth to end the game.

Transmission 0

John Whiteside pitched all five innings for DQ striking out 10 batters. Whiteside was also hot at the plate with a double in the second inning, a single in the fourth, and a walk in the fifth.

Brett Williams was 3-for-4 and Casey was 2-for-3. Ward, Tom Duffy, Ben Menkes and Rob Imbrogno all hit line-drive doubles to keep runs scoring for DQ.

Stratford Orange 4

Tage Thompson pitched a complete game for the win.

PAL broke a 4-4 tie in the top of the seventh with three runs to secure the win.

Roger Johns had the game-winning two-run single and later scored.

Schwartz continued his torrid hitting going 3-for-4 with three RBIs.

Four outstanding defensive plays on big hits to the outfield by MJ Duffy, Tim Longueira, Trey Saulnie, and Dan Montanez proved instrumental in the win.

ASF Outdoor Sports 3

A terrific throw-out by catcher Brian Schiller to Longueira at second on a runner leading off base too far led the defense. Nic Agostini had a key hit and Dominick Conte made a great catch in the outfield.

Stratford Maroon 6

Will Simon pitched five innings, striking out five for the win. Giacomo Broncato struck out four for the save.

Reece Maniscalco was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored Nick Minerva was 3-for-4 and scored a run.

Funeral Home 4

Jack Wilkinson pitched five innings, striking out five for the win and did not allow an earned run.

Justin Consoli had a hit with an RBI and a run scored. Broncato doubled and scored twice. Maniscalco pitched two innings with a hit and scored two runs.

O&G Industries 14,

Dairy Queen 7

Whiteside went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and two singles. Casey doubled.

Ward pitched two scoreless innings as DQ came from behind in the last inning for the win.

The seventh-inning rally started with base hits by Imbrogno, Menkes and Duffy and finished off with a line drive shot by Raggio to the left-center gap that brought in the winning runs for DQ.
