Alex Beyer and Friends will perform a second Summer Soirée Concert on Thursday, July 9, at 7:30 p.m. in Pequot Library’s Concert Hall. Alex Beyer performs piano Solo works of Bach, Chopin, Prokofiev, and Ravel with Special Guest, violinist Darwin Shen. 100% of the profits benefit Pequot Library. Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door. Pequot Library’s Director of Development, Katy Reed, invites the public to, “Bring your picnic dinners beforehand and enjoy our Great Lawn and new benches.”

Alex Beyer has acquired an impressive array of prestigious concert appearances nationally and internationally. He has been a guest soloist with the Milwaukee, Charlotte, Hartford, New Haven, Waterbury, and Bridgeport Symphony Orchestras, among others. First prize awards came in the Renee Fischer Competition and MTNA State and Regional Competitions. He was a finalist in the 2012 Gina Bachauer International Competition, a 2011 MTNA national finalist, and a prizewinner in the 2010 PianoArts Competition. Beyer received the Jeniam Foundation Scholarship from the Stamford Symphony in 2012, and in the same year was a US Presidential Scholar in the Arts. Warmly received at the 2015 US Chopin Competition, he received Sixth Prize. He was the recipient of Third Prize, as well as the Beethoven and Concerto special awards at the 2015 Dublin International Piano Competition.

Special guest, violinist Darwin Shen, will join Beyer in the second half of the concert. Shen is a soloist, chamber musician, teacher, coach and clinician. His broad range of musical activity and repertoire brings him from Carnegie Hall, to jazz clubs, to the Broadway stage, and beyond. A dedicated teacher, Darwin maintains an active teaching studio with prize-winning students throughout the country at the high school, college, and graduate levels. His second CD is slated for release in the Fall of 2015. It will feature unaccompanied works by Bach, Bartok, Paganini, and Ysaye.

The third and last in the Alex Beyer and Friends: Summer Soirée Concert Series will take place on August 20, 2015 at 7:30pm. Beyer will perform with Alan Murchie – 2 Piano works of Mendelssohn and Rachmaninoff. Come for one or both concerts, have a carry-in picnic dinner on the Great Lawn ahead of time, and then enjoy the music in Pequot Library’s acoustically renowned Concert Hall.
