Fairfield Senior Center hosts talk on healthy eating

Santina Galbo, MPH, Health Educator from the Town of Fairfield Health Department, will present a talk on Healthy Eating Thursday, July 7, at 10:30 a.m., at the Senior Center, 100 Mona Terrace. The talk is free of charge, however advance registration is required by calling 203-256-3166 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

According to Galbo, “The need and demand for appealing and accurate health information for adults ages 60 and older is growing. As baby-boomers age, nutritional needs change and preparing healthy meals may be challenging. Some seniors may eat and prepare meals differently than they did when they were younger – more restaurant meals, home-delivered meals and may have budgetary restrictions. Medical conditions or medications may require special diets.”

The USDA’s MyPlate guidelines and general nutrition recommendations, including detailed information on each of the five food groups including daily recommended serving size and why they are important for our bodies, as well as a discussion on sugar and how it affects our bodies will be covered in the talk.

The Senior Center maintains a Facebook Page, which contains a link to our recent newsletters. The newsletters contain a monthly lunch menu and a calendar of events, programs and activities.

For directions or information, call 203-256-3166 Monday through Friday between the hours of 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
