Summer Soirée series to benefit Pequot Library

Alex Beyer and friends will perform three different concerts at Pequot Library this summer. All concerts are on Thursday evenings starting at 7:30, on June 25; July 9; and Aug. 20.

The series begins with Alex Beyer on piano and Eliza Fath on cello performing Cello Sonatas of Beethoven and Debussy. On July 9 Beyer performs Solo works of Bach, Chopin, Prokofiev, Ravel, before closing the series on Aug. 20 where Beyer is joined by pianist Alan Murchie for 2 Piano Works of Mendelssohn and Rachmaninoff.

Tickets are $25 in advance/$30 at the door or save by purchasing tickets to all 3 concerts for $60, at or in person. All three concerts will be held in Pequot Library’s Auditorium/Concert Hall and proceeds help support Pequot Library’s more than 450 annual programs for all ages.

Alex Beyer has acquired an impressive array of prestigious concert appearances nationally and internationally. He has been a guest soloist with the Milwaukee, Charlotte, Hartford, New Haven, Waterbury, and Bridgeport Symphony Orchestras, among others. First prize awards came in the Renee Fischer Competition and MTNA State and Regional Competitions. He was a finalist in the 2012 Gina Bachauer International Competition, a 2011 MTNA national finalist and a prizewinner in the 2010 PianoArts Competition. Beyer received the Jeniam Foundation Scholarship from the Stamford Symphony in 2012, and in the same year, was a US Presidential Scholar in the Arts. Warmly received at the 2015 US Chopin Competition, he received Sixth Prize. He was the recipient of Third Prize, as well as the Beethoven and Concerto special awards at the 2015 Dublin International Piano Competition.

Eliza Fath

Eliza Fath

Eliza Fath has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in numerous venues in Connecticut, Vermont, Maine, New York, Indiana, New Jersey, California, Ohio, Virginia, Florida, Korea and various countries throughout Europe. She began her study of the cello when she was five and recently graduated from the pre-college division of The Juilliard School studying with Minhye Clara Kim. Fath served as Principal cellist of the Juilliard Pre-College Symphony and previously studied with Irene Sharp, Professor Emeritus at San Francisco Conservatory. Eliza is currently attending the Cleveland Institute of Music continuing her solo studies with Dr. Melissa Kraut. In 2011, Eliza was the winner of the American Chamber Orchestra Concerto Competition and was a guest soloist with their orchestra.

Alan Murchie

Alan Murchie is a versatile musician whose performance schedule includes regular appearances as a solo pianist, organist, conductor, chamber musician, and lecturer. Recent concert performances include piano and organ concerti with The Knights, a live recital on WGBH Boston with BSO cellist Owen Young, and appearances at summer festivals including Maverick Concerts in Woodstock, New York. As a solo pianist, Murchie has toured Morocco and has performed in Vienna, Berlin, Edinburgh, Venice, and Florence. As organist, Murchie’s New York recital venues have included the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola and Saint Thomas Church Fifth Avenue.
