PAL-DeRose today for title

Fairfield PAL advanced to the Junior Babe Ruth League Majors East Division finals with an exciting 4-1 win over top-seeded McGoldrick Fuel at Tunxis Hill Field on Saturday.

PAL will play DeRose Family Podiatry Sunday at Tunxis Hill at 11:30 for the title.

DeRose defeated Stratford Orange, 11-6, at Seaside Park on Saturday.

The winning pitcher was Will Cannon, who pitched a seven-inning complete game.

DeRose’s offensive attack was headed up by Tyler Henchcliffe, who had a double and triple, Johnny Balsinger, who had a single and double, and Jackson Rotondo, who had two singles.

PAL’s Tage Thompson was spectacular, holding McGoldrick to just one run over seven innings for the complete-game victory.

PAL scored four runs with two outs in the fourth inning to take a 4 0-lead and made it stand up by playing nearly error-free defense.

Mark Schwartz led the way offensively with two doubles and a run scored, including one to lead off the fourth.

With two out in that inning, Jesse Clifford reached on an infield grounder to score Schwartz and Spencer Foley followed by delivering the game’s key hit, a two-out, two-run triple that put PAL ahead for good.

Foley scored PAL’s fourth and final run minutes later on a passed ball, narrowly beating the play at the plate.
