Food bank to be independent of Feeding America

Effective July 1, 2015, The Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County, in Stamford, will become a food bank independent of the Feeding America network. This will not change The Food Bank’s mission to provide emergency food to its member agencies and programs for redistribution to those in need in this community. However, The Food Bank anticipates that it will require more donated food and additional funding to purchase food in order to meet demand.

Kate Lombardo, The Food Bank’s executive director, said, “It is my hope that, with the continued strong support of the people and stores in this community, The Food Bank will be able to meet the need for emergency food of thousands of people living below the poverty line in lower Fairfield County. Donations to The Food Bank will be used solely to support this community.”
