Bridgeport Rescue Mission receives $10K grant

Bridgeport Rescue Mission has received a grant totaling $10,000 from the Rotary Club of Bridgeport. The funds will be used to renovate the Mission’s kitchen with critical updates that will enable the ministry to more efficiently serve the hungry and homeless throughout coastal Fairfield County.

“The Rotary Club of Bridgeport dedicates itself to serving others in our community and I am proud to be a member of such a wonderful organization,” said Bridgeport Rescue Mission Executive Director Terry Wilcox. “We are grateful to have the Rotary Club stand with us in assisting the less fortunate and blessed that they have responded to our needs so generously.”

The grant will help fund a complete kitchen makeover including an improved layout, new flooring, commercial-grade gas oven, dishwasher, gas fryer, reach-in refrigerator and countertop mixer, and a new sink and scale to weigh food donations. “Each month the Mission provides 12,000 meals to men, women and children who might otherwise go without, and it has been 18 years since our kitchen has been updated,” Wilcox said. “Because it is continuously operating at full capacity, our equipment has far exceeded what should have been its useful life. The renovation will increase our efficiency, improve

our ability to maintain a clean, safe environment, allow us to prepare more meals from scratch and give us extra space to accommodate volunteer groups. All of these efforts will enable us to better serve our hungry neighbors.”

Wilcox will accept the grant at a check presentation ceremony during the Rotary Club of Bridgeport’s luncheon meeting tomorrow at the Holiday Inn .
