Girl Scouts of CT host 22nd annual Woman of Merit benefit dinner

GirlScoutsCTGirl Scouts of Connecticut will host the 2015 Woman of Merit Benefit Dinner Thursday, June 11, from 5:30-9 p.m., at the Italian Center of Stamford.

The Woman of Merit Award recognizes leaders who demonstrate the Girl Scout values of leadership, personal achievement, and service to the community. The award is given in honor of Alice Pattison Merritt, an extraordinary public leader who became the first woman elected to the Connecticut Senate. Merritt was also instrumental in bringing Girl Scouting to girls in Connecticut.

This year, Girl Scouts of Connecticut is honoring two women, Sikorsky Chief Information Officer Judith Bankowski, and MSNBC “Morning Joe” co-host and best-selling author Mika Brzezinski.

Judith Bankowski

Judith Bankowski serves as vice president and chief information officer for Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation. She leads the Information Technology function and provides strategic direction ensuring efficiency, availability, and security of the information system and services. Bankowski currently serves on the Board for Community Health Charities of New England. She is also the Executive Champion for the Sikorsky Women’s Forum, INROADS Program, and UTC’s Information Technology Women’s Forum.

Mika Brzezinski

Mika Brzezinski is the co-host of MSNBC’s Morning Joe and the author of three best-selling books. Her memoir, All Things At Once, became a New York Times best seller in 2010. Her second book, Knowing Your Value, which examines the role of women in the workplace, reached #1 on the New York Times best seller list for business books in 2011. Her third book, Obsessed: America’s Food Addiction and My Own, made the best seller list in spring 2013. She just released another book, Grow Your Value, which stands as the next chapter of Knowing Your Value.

“We are very excited to honor two women who display wonderful traits and skills that we hold near and dear to our hearts here in Girl Scouting,” said Mary Barneby, CEO, Girl Scouts of Connecticut. “Judith and Mika are wonderful examples of women who challenge the role women play in society, and work towards making the future a brighter place for girls.
