Fairfield Senior Center exceeds 2,000 members

Terry Giegengack, director of Human and Social Services, announced that the Fairfield Senior Center, 100 Mona Terrace, has now exceeded 2,000 members.

Member number 2,000 is Fairfield resident, Carolyn P. Cleary. Cleary was born and lived much of her life in Darien. She is now a resident of Fairfield and a proud mother of two teenage sons who attend Ludlowe High School. While she worked for many years as a medical secretary in the fields of Assisted Living and Long Term Care, Cleary now works part time at the Fairfield Motor Inn.

Cleary’s introduction at the Senior Center occurred when she came for the AARP tax assistance program. In her own words, “The tax preparers are wonderful and very knowledgeable. I appreciate their help very much. This is a first rate service.”

While Cleary was at the Center after her taxes were prepared, she toured the Center and read the newsletter and all the programs and services posted around the building. Cleary said, “The programs and services you offer are unbelievable. There are so many interesting things to do and your members certainly do not let any grass grow under their feet. Everyone here seems active and involved and I am very impressed.” When asked what she is interested in doing next at the Center, she said yoga looks like it would be very good for her to try.

Cleary also is interested in the Stay at Home concept for seniors in Fairfield and she hopes in the future it will be able to offer services to seniors. She knows firsthand from her work experience that seniors need help.
