Sheila Marmion, Selectman (D) of Fairfield, today announced plans to run for election in November 2015. Marmion has served as Selectman since January 2015, following her unanimous endorsement by the Democratic Town Committee (DTC) to replace Cristin McCarthy Vahey.

“I am running for Selectman because I want to ensure that Fairfield maintains and builds upon its well-deserved reputation for excellent schools, services and high quality of life,” Marmion said. “This year we delivered the lowest tax increase in fifteen years, while restoring funds to our Libraries, increasing key services, and supporting the full Board of Education request for our schools. As Selectman I’ll work with Mike Tetreau to continue the trend of low tax increases, responsible fiscal policy and a more efficient local government,” Marmion added.

Before her appointment as Selectman, Marmion served two-and-a-half terms on the Representative Town Meeting (RTM), representing District 6. While a member of the RTM, Marmion was a member of the Finance Committee, acting as Vice-Chair in her second term; served as a member of the Senior and Disabled Tax Relief committee; was a sponsor of the FAIRTV ordinance; and served as Deputy Minority Leader for the Democratic Caucus.

First Selectman Tetreau said, “I am thrilled that Sheila Marmion is seeking to continue her important role as Selectman. I can’t think of a better running mate to compliment the Administration’s cost-conscious approach in keeping Fairfield affordable while providing every citizen with a high quality of life.”

As Fairfield’s Selectman and former RTM member, as well as a parent of three and health care provider, Marmion has the right mix of government and personal experience to make the best decisions for Fairfield. “This hard working leader always does her homework and asks the tough questions in an articulate and genuine way,” Tetreau added.

Marmion has lived in Fairfield for 16 years, and is married to Donald Breakell. They have three children, all of whom attend Fairfield Public Schools. Marmion is a licensed occupational therapist, and is a Director of Rehabilitation. Prior to becoming an occupational therapist, Marmion worked in marketing communications in the healthcare field. She has served on numerous boards, including the Fairfield League of Women Voters, Clara’s Secret Shepard Foundation (supports foster children) and Can Do Multiple Sclerosis. Marmion has served as a member of the PTA Council for Tomlinson Middle School, and is a member of the Gaelic-American Club.

“Fairfield is in a much better place today under the leadership of First Selectman Michael Tetreau,” Marmion said. “I look forward to working with him over the next four years to continue to deliver on his vision of sound, balanced governance that benefits all of Fairfield,” she concluded.
