McGuinness kicks Warde to 29-28 win

Conor McGuinness kicked a 20-yard field goal with 4.8 on the clock to lift the Fairfield Warde football team to a 29-28 victory over Bassick of Bridgeport at Tetreau-Davis Field on Friday night.
Coach Duncan DellaVolpe’s Mustangs improved to 1-3 while Bassick dropped to 0-4.
Warde’s Colin Ventura returned the opening kickoff 75 yards for a touchdown and the Mustangs added  scores from Ventura (17-yard run) and Dawud Mohamed (one-yard run) to take a 20-0 lead after one quarter.
Bassick’s Vochan Fowler broke the spell with a 16-yard touchdown, and added the two-point conversion.
T.J. Gallagher got that score back with a one-yard run, before Vachon had another eight-point play that started with a run from seven yards out.
Warde’s 26-16 halftime lead shrunk to 26-22 by the end of the third quarter, as Fowler tacked on a five-yard run.
The Lions’ made it three straight scores, and took a 28-26 lead, when Tyreik Gilbert threw a 50-yard touchdown pass to Fowler in the final period.
Warde answered with its field goal from McGuinness, who also had two conversion kicks.
