Ska & punk band Fishbone returns to Fairfield Theatre Co.

Even in the middle of building their new performance art venue, The Warehouse, The Fairfield Theatre Company can’t miss the chance to welcome back the trailblazes of the American ska, funk, punk, and rock fusion scene to rock the foundation of FTC. That’s right; FISHBONE are coming back to StageOne on Thursday, May 7, at 7:30, 70 Sanford Street.

These punk pioneers began their professional career in Los Angeles’ Alternative Rock scene of the mid-1980s. Fishbone created a sound that has often been imitated, but never duplicated. Having toured worldwide with such bands as the Beastie Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Roots, Les Claypool/Primus, Fela Kuti, George Clinton, The Dead Kennedys and many more; lead singer Angelo Moore’s ability to combine thought-provoking, humorous social commentary with FISHBONE’s frenzied, up-tempo music and frantic, euphorically entertaining stage show has garnered for them an undisputed reputation as one of the best live acts in music history.

Continuing to compose, create, record, releasing and performing original music together, Fishbone’s mass critical appeal appears to be returning to the band, fueled by their critically acclaimed full-length feature documentary; “Everyday Sunshine: The Story of Fishbone.” The film earned LA Weekly’s Critic’s Choice Award at the Los Angeles Film Fest in 2010, and has been called “effortlessly Entertaining” (Variety), “Brilliant and Groundbreaking” (Pop Matters), and hailed as “more than a documentary about rock ‘n’ roll. It’s a documentary about the American spirit and one that shows the life of one of its most influential creative forces.” (Encore Magazine)

Now FISHBONE return to FTC’s StageOne in support of their latest release, Intrinsically Intertwined, a five song EP that continues to showcase why this legendary band and its members, who may have flown under the radar continue to performed at noteworthy festivals and tv appearance around the globe including Gathering of the Vibes, Outside Lands Music Festival, Ottawa Blues Fest , Montreal Jazz Festival, DeLuna Fest , Voodoo Festival, Fuji Rock Festival, Sunset Junction, and later this year Interlocking “LOCKN’” music festival in Virginia as well as on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Angelo Moore sitting in with The Roots on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. But that’s not all, FISHBONE is supporting – in association with Fallout Entertainment, Controlled Substance Sound Labs and Zojak – the potential five-part web series called The Fishbone Reality: “Unstuck”, Part 1 of Intrinsically Intertwined. The first webisode entitled “Unstuck” was premiered earlier this year in February on VEVO.

The video series is tied in with the band’ 5-song EP, Intrinsically Intertwined, and the first song “Unstuck” features its own music video within an extended 8-minute zany rock ‘n’ roll romp of a webisode; which begins to translate the band’s storyline from their conceptual new 5-song recording.

The Fishbone Reality: “Unstuck”, Part 1 of Intrinsically Intertwined was written, directed and produced by Olivia Barash (Repo Man) and executive produced by Bill Fishman from Fallout Entertainment; reuniting Fishbone and Fishman for the first time since the cult success of the major motion picture Tapeheads. The long form video was filmed on location at the Santa Monica Pier as well as within the walls and grounds of the colossal new YouTube Space LA.

“This video series is geared towards a modern webisode style ‘sit-com’ inspired by classic music-based TV shows like The Monkees with a touch of The Young Ones,” says Olivia Barash. “If one looks carefully, you will be bound to spot some of the band’s famous fans throughout the cast.”

Both longtime fans and new listeners are destined to become “Intrinsically Intertwined” with Fishbone’s comic relief to their own reality. The band will launch a crowd-funding campaign in March 2015 to help support the production behind the remaining 4 episodes.
