Pequot celebrates May Day with music and Shakespeare

Celebrate May Day and “Brush up Your Shakespeare” with this final concert of the 2014-15 season of Music at Pequot Library. On Friday May 1, at 8 p.m., listen to a professional-level 16-voice Chamber Chorus, known for impeccable performances. Music on the Hill and Pequot Library present “Shakespeare at the Library,” with Music on the Hill’s Chamber Chorus performing words of The Bard in a variety of musical interpretations, artistic Director David H. Connell conducts.

The Chamber Chorus will present musical settings of Shakespeare’s sonnets and songs from the plays, including Three Shakespeare Songs by British composer Ralph Vaughan Williams. The program will also include Songs and Sonnets from Shakespeare by British jazz pianist George Shearing, as well as modern reinterpretations from such popular musicals as Bernstein’s West Side Story and Cole Porter’s Kiss Me, Kate.

“And what is so rare as a day in June?” A May Day evening with music and Shakespeare in Pequot Library!
