Fairfield seniors invited to tour ‘The Kate’

Members of the Fairfield Senior Center are invited to take a bus trip to tour “The Kate Museum” in Old Saybrook on Wednesday, May 13. A lunch is planned at the Old Estuary Council for Seniors.

“The Kate” is short for Katherine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center. The building has just turned 99 years old and according to “The Kate’ has improved, like good wine, with age. Trained docents will fill travelers in on the history as they tour through Old Saybrook’s crown jewel. After the tour, participants will go to the Old Saybrook’s Estuary Council for Seniors, for lunch and then visit their Thrift Shop.

The Kate Museum has narrow hallways, stairs and there is a lot of walking. This trip is not recommended for anyone having trouble walking, and the buildings are not handicapped accessible.

The public is invited to become members of the Fairfield Senior Center and go on this trip. The total trip cost is $8 and includes transportation, lunch and museum fees. Space is limited on a first come basis. Please reserve your space with payment by Wednesday, May 6, before 3 p.m. Cash and checks are welcome and reservations may be made in the front office of the Senior Center. Please call the senior center at 203-256-3166 for more information.

Membership currently is free of charge. Simply pick up a membership application, fill it out and leave at the front desk and you will receive a key fob to use signing into activities at the Center. It takes less than five minutes to complete an application. Connecticut residents age 50+ are welcome to join.

The Fairfield Senior Center is handicapped accessible. There is free parking. Bus Transportation is available to Fairfield residents by calling 203-256-3168 a few days in advance. A $2 lunch is available Monday through Friday, noon-12:30. To reserve a lunch, call at least three days in advance.
