Baseball: Ludlowe rally comes up short against Warde

Ludlowe’s Nate Klein hit a two-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but Fairfield Warde hung on to defeat the Falcons, 4-3, at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Friday night.

With the victory, coach Mark Caron’s Mustangs improved to 6-0, 4-0 in the FCIAC, while Ludlowe fell to 1-4, 1-3 in the FCIAC.

After falling behind 1-0 on Patrick O’Leary’s RBI double in bottom of the first inning, Warde struck for two runs in the second inning and single markers in the fourth and sixth.

Zach Weinstein’s two-run single gave Warde a 2-1 lead, while Zavier Espinel hammered a solo home run to right field and Dakota DeJordy drove in a run with an infield single.

Junior Reece Maniscalco made the lead stand up for the Mustangs on the mound. The right-hander scattered five hits, struck out four and walked three.

Klein’s two-run shot, after Dan Paglialunga reached on an error, narrowed the gap to one run, but Maniscalco got Sean Guiterrez on a grounder to Nick Nardone at second base to end it.

Eddie Magi took the loss for Ludlowe, working five innings and allowing four runs, three earned, five hits and walking six.
