LVBPT, a contestent in Extreme Charity Makeover Contest

Literacy volunteers of Greater Bridgeport (LVBPT) have been nominated as a contestant in the Extreme Charity Makeover Contest. The winning charity will receive more than $20,000 in marketing services, and every participating charity will receive complimentary marketing services in this unique contest. LVBPT is seeking support from the community. The first phase of the contest is online voting. Visit, click Vote Now and cast your vote for us. You can return once per day to vote.

A new website will allow the LVBPT staff to communicate more effectively with its community, and enable new and easier ways for people to support the LVBPT mission. In addition to a much-needed facelift, a Content Management System, Events Calendar, and Newsletter Engine would be put in place that allows LVBPT to market more effectively and ultimately lead to more services provided to the community. LVBPT provides free tutoring for adults who want to learn to speak English, improve their basic reading, writing and math skills or obtain a high school diploma.

Several local non-profit organizations will benefit from this special charity competition, sponsored by local businessman Greyson Schwing of Antelope Web ( Nominations will be accepted to enter the Extreme Charity Makeover Contest until May 31. Charitable 501c(3) organizations headquartered in New Haven or Fairfield County are eligible to compete for the grand prize. Nominations are accepted for submission with no restrictions.

About Literacy Volunteers of Greater Bridgeport

Literacy Volunteers of Greater Bridgeport works to actively promote literacy by identifying adult literacy needs in our community and meeting those needs through direct literacy services. We strive to help our clients acquire the literacy skills necessary to be successful in the workplace, participate in the education of their children and lead productive lives.

Literacy Volunteers of Bridgeport recruits, trains and guides volunteers to teach other adults to read, write and speak English. Tutors and students work together for a minimum of two hours per week. Learning takes place in small groups or one-on-one.

We have approximately 250 students from the greater Bridgeport area who register for our programs each year. Our students are adults, ages 18 and up, who come from a variety of countries and backgrounds.
