Wonderful Weaving Workshop

Tuesday, April 13, 1-3 p.m., ages 8-12, members: $10; non-members: $15.

Master artist, textile designer, and weaving instructor Ruben Marroquin will demonstrate the ancient art of weaving and show vibrant examples of his work in embroidery, stripes, plaid, metallic yarns, bamboo and alpaca. Using small table looms, students will learn simple weaving techniques and take home a finished woven bracelet or bookmark.

Ruben Marroquin has a weaving studio and storefront in Bridgeport, CT. He has conducted weaving demonstrations at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Westport Library, and at the Bridgeport Arts Fest. Marroquin has also been invited to show his work at the Minnesota Museum of American Art, the Fuller Craft Museum and will participate in the Textile Biennial at the Rijswijk Museum in Holland later this year.

History by Hand

Wednesday, April 14, 1-4 p.m., ages 8-12, members: $30; non-members: $35.

Tour the exhibit “Fashion and Fantasy: 250 Years of Wedding Dresses” and learn about popular fashion styles, trends, and materials over the years. Learn basic sewing skills and try out a real vintage Singer machine! Create a hand-sewn sachet filled with our own potpourri and a small purse inspired by the rich colors, textures, and lace in the exhibit. Embellish with lace, beads, baubles, and more.

Art Around the World

Thursday, April 15, 9-noon, ages 4-6; 1-4 p.m., ages 6-8. Each session members: $30; non-members: $35.

Get an early taste of the fun activities planned for Summer Camp with Miss Annie and Miss Karen of Great Beginnings Montessori School. Come travel to Europe to explore a famous artist and create a beautiful piece of art to take home!

Family Scavenger Hunt

Friday, April 17, 1:30-3 p.m., recommended for families with children ages 6-12, free with admission.

Explore the interactive, hands-on exhibit Creating Community: Exploring 375 Years of Our Past and use your sleuthing skills to work to solve the clues with an amazing and astonishing Scavenger Hunt! Complete the challenges and win a prize! Multiple versions will be available for both younger and older detectives.

About the Fairfield Museum and History Center

The Fairfield Museum and History Center is a community cultural arts and education center established in 2007 by the 103-year old Fairfield Historical Society. Located at 370 Beach Road in Fairfield, the Museum is open seven days a week, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults; $3 for students and seniors. Members of the Museum and children are free.
