On Saturday March 28, at 1:55 a.m. Fairfield and Westport firefighters responded to a report of two vehicles on their side with persons injured and trapped on I-95 northbound between exit 18 and 19 near the Sasco River Creek Overpass.

Fairfield Engine 4 was the first unit on scene. Lt. Justin Greenhaw confirmed that two vehicles were rolled over onto their sides, one with a single uninjured occupant, and one with three occupants with moderate to serious injuries. Fairfield and Westport firefighters worked together to free the victims from the wreckage.

Two of the victims were transported to Bridgeport Hospital and one to Norwalk Hospital. Asst. Chief George Gomola, the incident commander, reported that “This was a serious accident and a very complicated extrication. The high level of professionalism and cooperation demonstrated by the Fairfield and Westport Fire Departments during this extrication helped to saved lives and reduced the impact of this accident on the victims. This was a job well done by all.” The last Fairfield Fire unit cleared at 3 a.m.”
