NAMI CT kicks off fund-raising season

NAMI_CT_WALK_LogoOn Saturday, March 28, NAMI Connecticut kicks off its 11th annual walk fund-raising season at the St. Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield. The annual walk is scheduled to take place Saturday, May 16, at Bushnell Park in Hartford. Walk funds support NAMI Connecticut’s 30 plus year mission to provide free education, support and legislative advocacy for those living with mental health challenges, family members, professionals and Connecticut businesses.

Kate Mattias, executive director of NAMI Connecticut states, “The deep budget cuts proposed in the 2015 highlight our need to support each other now more than ever to retain the access and supports that we have all fought so hard for. We have a lot of residents who understand what’s at stake.”

Many team captains have a personal interest in being part of the Walk. They are family members, people with the personal experience living with mental health conditions. Additionally some are interested community members, including businesses. There will be a raffle at the event on Saturday for those who have already signed up their teams online, and attendees could win either an IPad Mini or a Kindle Fire.

NAMI Connecticut Board President Marisa Walls and NAMI Connecticut Executive Director Kate Mattias are excited about not only the new walk platform unveiled this year but also the number of new teams and social media activity around the 2015 Walk. “We are extremely excited about this year’s Walk and are off to a great start; we are hoping to have this be our best Walk yet!”

NAMI Connecticut is committed to reaching and serving the 1 in 5 individuals in Connecticut that are impacted by mental health challenges each year. The benefits of support are immeasurable to those who need it, when they need it and often that is at a crisis point. The organization has 11 statewide affiliates and more than 40 support groups in Connecticut run by those with lived experience which means so much to those newly introduced to navigating the system, accessing and getting support.

Currently there are 70 Walk teams signed up and 25% of the overall donation goal has already been met. For information or to sign-up your team, become a virtual walker or for corporate sponsorship opportunities visit namict.org or email [email protected]
