The Housatonic Community College Foundation announces Aquarion Water Company Vice President of Corporate Communications and Trumbull resident Bruce T. Silverstone as its 2015 “Distinguished Citizen” award recipient.

The award is presented to an individual who exemplifies the ideals of Housatonic Community College in their daily life. Silverstone will be honored by the foundation at its annual “Distinguished Citizen” Award Luncheon on March 26, at Housatonic Community College’s Event Center in Beacon Hall.

“Bruce was chosen as this year’s “Distinguished Citizen” award winner because of his tireless service to the Greater Bridgeport community and beyond,” said Christopher P. McCormack, partner in the Bridgeport law firm Pullman & Comley, LLC and President of the Housatonic Community College Foundation. “He serves in leadership roles on the boards of a number of non-profit organizations that provide important and critical community services. He is undeniably held in high esteem by his colleagues and it is our pleasure to present him with this year’s award.”

Silverstone has been with Aquarion Water Company for seven years. He has initiated and spearheaded a number of the company’s charitable and environmental initiatives, including the House of Hope Food Drive, which is a partnership with St. Vincent’s Medical Center that has collected over 22 tons of food for food pantries; and the statewide Aquarion Environmental Champion Awards program, which is celebrating its fifth anniversary in 2015.

Additionally, Silverstone is an active community volunteer and serves on a number of organizational boards including the St. Vincent’s Special Needs Center; the Stamford Museum and Nature Center, Workplace, Inc., CT Beardsley Zoo, and the Barnum Festival. He also serves on the Mystic Aquarium President’s Council. In Washington, Silverstone serves on the National Association of Water Companies Government Relations Committee and Communication Committee. He is also the corporate representative for the Center for Family Justice Steering Committee to combat domestic violence and sexual abuse.

The “Distinguished Citizen” Award Luncheon provides businesses and organizations with the opportunity to support vital programs at Housatonic Community College, including Manufacturing Center programs, high school outreach, student success programs and scholarships.
