Hartford Jazz Orchestra performs at Pequot Sunday

Pequot Library, in collaboration with the Westport Arts Center, presents the Hartford Jazz Orchestra Sunday, March 22, from 3-5, in Pequot Library’s acoustically renowned Auditorium/Concert Hall.

The HJO has been performing in Connecticut since 1965. With its impressive horns section, the Hartford Jazz Orchestra is sure to be a crowd pleaser. This concert is part of the “Music at Pequot Library” 2014-15 season.

Individual tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door. All tickets are general admission. Doors open 30 minutes before the performance begins.

The present leader of the HJO is Donn Trenner. Much of Trenner’s career has been that of a jazz pianist, playing with Charlie Parker and Stan Getz among others. Over the years, he traveled with the Les Brown Orchestra and participated in seven of the famed Bob Hope Christmas USO tours. He has worked as pianist-conductor for such artists as Lena Horne, Nancy Wilson, Vicki Carr, Dick Haymes, Jose Feliciano and Jack Jones. Trenner’s international musical career spans decades. In that time he has been the musical director for scores of famous musicians, and has created large events for both movie stars and US presidents. The Hartford Jazz Orchestra welcomed him into their fold and Trenner assumed the leadership role in May 2000.

The last of the Music at Pequot Library 2014-2015 series will be performed by Music on the Hill, a professional-level Chamber Chorus performing ”Shakespeare at the Library” Friday, May 1, at 7:30.
