Charity baby shower benefits Center for Family Justice

The Fairfield Public Library is sponsoring its third annual baby shower to benefit the Center for Family Justice Wednesday, March 25, at 2 p.m., in the Rotary Room at the Main Library, 1080 Old Post Road. To help mothers in crisis, there will be a collection of new items for babies and children.

The phrase “It takes a village” is especially true as the community comes together to support mothers and children in need. Come and enjoy a garden tea party, a peek at the art of Beatrix Potter, and a talk with the Library’s own children’s book illustrator, Mary Jo Koeck. Registration is requested.

Donation requests include: gift cards (Wal-Mart, Stop & Shop, Target and Walgreens); diapers and pull ups (all sizes); baby wipes and diaper rash ointment; crib sheets and blankets; toddler size clothing; onesies, PJs, hats, socks and booties; formula, baby food and baby cereal; and chunky board books and infant toys. For group gifts: a stroller or umbrella stroller; car seat or toddler seat; or a boppie are some options. All items must be new, thank you. Even if you are unable to attend the shower, donations may be dropped off at the circulation desk at the Main Library.

Mary Jo Koeck, under her pen name Mary Jo Scott, illustrated the book Sleepyheads Snooze by Carolyn Malkin, coming out this April. In the spring of 2016, four books of her children’s poetry are being released. Mary Jo is an illustrator, poet and typographer. She can also sometimes be found working at the circulation desk at the Main Library.
