Fairfield Town Clerk Betsy P. Browne recently received her Certified Municipal Clerk designation from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks.

Browne stated, “the knowledge I have gained from attending the institute and achieving the CMC status will benefit my office and the residents we assist on a daily basis.”

The Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) program is designed to enhance the job performance of municipal clerks. To earn this prestigious designation, a municipal clerk must attend extensive education programs and requires pertinent experience in a municipality. Browne was awarded the Henry Paquin Scholarship Award at the New England Municipal Clerks Institute voted upon by the members of the Class of 2014. Browne has also earned the Master Connecticut Town Clerk certification.

Browne has been an active member of the Connecticut Town Clerks Association since 2001 and has served on the genealogy and vitals committees and now serves on the technology and consumer protection committees. Browne currently represents the 23 town and city clerks of Fairfield County on the executive board in her second two-year term as Vice President.

In November, Browne was elected 2nd Vice President of the New England Association of City & Town Clerks at its conference held in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. She is also the editor of the New England Clerk, the newsletter of the New England City & Town Clerks Association.

First elected in 2005, Browne has served Fairfield as its town clerk, previously having served as assistant town clerk to Marguerite Toth and as assistant to former first selectman Jacky Durrell.
