Fairfield Prep took control of its Class LL state quarterfinal basketball game with town rival Fairfield Ludlowe in the first few minutes and never let up, as the top-seeded Jesuits defeated the eighth-seeded Mustangs, 70-48 before 2,500 fans at Alumni Hall.

Prep improved to 23-2 and will play fifth-seeded Hillhouse High (21-4) from New Haven in the semifinals on Tuesday at a site and time to be determined. Prep won both regular season games between the two SCC teams.

Prep led 26-9 after one quarter, 44-18 at the half and 60-45 after three periods.

Rich Kelly scored 20 points, Ryan Foley 18 and Tommy Nolan had 11 for the Jesuits.

Matt Doyle scored 13 points, Cole Prowitt-Smith 11 and Chad Peterson chipped in with eight for Ludlowe, which completed its season at 17-7.
