FTC welcomes back guitarist Andy McKee

Fairfield Theatre Company welcomes the unique and exceptional guitarist, Andy McKee back to StageOne Thursday, March 12, at 7:30 p.m., 70 Sanford Street.

Considered to be one of the world’s finest acoustic guitar players, with the majority of his success coming from his videos on YouTube; Andy Mckee is an artist on a meteoric rise. With his engaging live performances and rock solid touring schedule (two hundred shows a year) this diamond in the rough has grown into a global phenomenon.

Consistently logging 50,000 plus impressions on YouTube and Myspace every day, McKee is a star for the digital age. What makes him a star? That’s simple; it’s his attention to song structure, melodic content, and unique approach to guitar that have elevated him above the rest!

He began playing at the age of 13 after his father bought him an Aria nylon sting guitar that got the musical fire burning within his soul. McKee was initially underwhelmed by his traditional guitar lessons, and it wasn’t until his electric guitar-playing cousin brought him out for his 16th birthday to see a guitarist named Preston Reed perform live at a clinic, that the fire was unleashed. McKee bought an instructional videotape from Reed and began to learn more complex guitar techniques.

Mckee began studying the music of other artists like Michael Hedges, Don Ross, and Billy McLaughlin, who still to this day he cites as his four primary musical influences, along with various groups such as; Earth Wind and Fire, The Yellowjackets, Bjork, Imogen Heap, Pantera, Eric Johnson, Peter Gabriel, Dream Theater, Bruce Hornsby, and many others.

Now McKee comes back to perform once again at Fairfield Theatre Company’s StageOne, with a show that has to be seen to be believed. Guitar fans get ready to see why Andy is considered one of the most idiosyncratic players around as he wows you with his altered tunings, partial capos, and percussive hits that will leave you on the edge of your seat, and make you want to run home and start practicing.

Join the Fairfield Theatre Company as they welcome this multiple platinum selling eccentric guitar player for a night that will leave you in awe of what you have just seen and heard, we guarantee it.
