Peter Saverine was again appointed to the Board of Directors of the Association of Fundraising Professionals — Fairfield County.

Saverine is the director of philanthropy at STAR, Inc., Lighting the Way, a Norwalk-based not-for-profit organization founded in 1952 by parents who desired more lifetime opportunities for their children who had intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Currently living in Fairfield, Peter grew up in Darien, and graduated Magna cum laude from Amherst College with a Bachelor’s in Political Science. Mr. Saverine worked in retail and in marketing before buying Greenwich’s Colony Florist, which he ran for 15 years. Then, he became Director of Development and Executive Director at the Bartlett Arboretum.  In 2013 Peter finally landed his “Dream job” at STAR.

STAR serves over 600 people per year in Darien, New Canaan, Wilton, Westport, Weston and Norwalk. Program highlights include services for infants/toddlers, job training and assistance for high school students, supportive housing, recreational programs, transportation, and respite care.

Peter has been engaged in local volunteerism for decades. He served twice as the President of the Chambers of Commerce in Darien and Wilton, and was on the Board of Directors for the United Ways in Darien, Wilton and Greenwich. Currently, Mr. Saverine volunteers as an Adult Advisor at Builders Beyond Borders mentoring  youth in leadership skills, performing local volunteer projects, and accompanying them to countries like the Dominican Republic and Guatemala where they build community centers and classrooms.

Saverine is an accomplished landscape painter and the Author of three children’s books, including “Jenny’s Pennies – A Nantucket Tradition,” which is a bestseller on the Island.  He, sadly, lost his beloved wife to cancer three years ago, but continues to be blessed in many other ways: he has four thriving adult children and four beautiful grandchildren.

The AFP Fairfield County Chapter provides regular professional development opportunities and networking for those involved in fundraising, either vocationally or as volunteers. Monthly luncheons with featured speakers are held the first Thursday of every month from September to June at The Norwalk Inn and Conference Center in Norwalk.
