Ludlowe ousted by Wilton in FCIAC boys basketball

A dominating third quarter powered the Wilton High boys basketball team to a 56-45 win over Fairfield Ludlowe in an FCIAC quarterfinal game Saturday afternoon at Ludlowe.

The seventh-seeded Warriors (15-6) will now face third-seed Norwalk in the semifinals on Tuesday at Fairfield Warde. Norwalk (16-5) defeated sixth-seed Bassick in an earlier quarterfinal Saturday.

Ludlowe (15-6) led throughout the first two quarters and was ahead 28-25 at the break. But Wilton outscored the Falcons, 15-3, in the third quarter to open a 40-31 advantage going into the final quarter.

Matt Shifrin (10 points) and Scott Shouvlin (five) combined for all of Wilton’s points in the period.

The Warriors maintained their lead in the fourth quarter to advance to the semifinals.

Shifrin poured in 25 points for Wilton. Michael Bingaman and Shouvlin each added 10 points.

Darren Lee had a team-high 16 points for Ludlowe. He was the only Falcon in double figures.

Ludlowe’s talented point guard, Matt Doyle, was held to nine points, including just two points in the opening half.
