Warde taking 10 wrestlers to Open

Timmy Kane, a sophomore, and junior Charlie Kane continued their unbeaten seasons when the Fairfield Warde wrestling team finished second at the Class L championships held at Bristol Central High on Saturday.

New Milford (264) took first, followed by coach Jason Shaughnessy’s Mustangs (228.5), Middletown (137) and Fairfield Ludlowe (129).

Warde will take 10 wrestlers to next weekend’s State Open in New Haven.

Timmy Kane extended his record to 37-0 when the top-seeded Mustang won the 126-pound title with a 1:22 fall over second-seeded Joshua Wilson from Bristol Eastern.

Charlie Kane won a 6-0 decision over top-seeded Bryan Rojas from New Milford at 138 pounds, as the second seed improved to 37-0.

Senior Dan Ebert placed second at 145 pounds, losing to top-seeded Emmett LiCastri from Immaculate/Joel Barlow. Ebert had pinned his first three foes in 4:13.

Jordi Proskinitopo wrestled to his seed, as the senior made it to the finals before losing to New Milford’s fourth-seeded Denzel Phillips 10-5,

Aaron Addotey, a senior, wrestled back to place third with a 6-4 decision over New Milford’s Turner Ellis.
Alex Steele, a freshman, placed fourth at 113 pounds. Senior Aaron Beinstein was fourth at 132 pounds. Junior John Ocano was fourth at 220 pounds. Junior Jack Price was fifth at 120 pounds. Senior Tyler Mazut was fifth in the heavyweight division.

Michael Correia, seeded 14th, won his opener at 106 pounds by 5:45 fall and then the senior took a pair of consolation bouts (3:29 and 7-4) before losing to sixth-place finisher Martino Pusz from Middletown.
